VIX is an important indicator to watch when there are big moves on the market.
I do not do a daily update although I do watch carefully everyday the index as well as other volatility index.
But a monthly update is rather good.

On the macro economic front, there are yet no tensions since FED is on a foreseeable mood, no interest rate increase before September 2015, and the macro economic datas are rather good.
On the EUrozone front, ECB is in a QE situation and the Greek Debt is almost mastered. On the geopolitical front, there isn't any known tensed situation at least no more then what already exist. Therefore, for the time being, there isn't a lot of reason for volatility, the market is rather on the upside.
