My trading plan for 2021 - maximum upside, minimum stress

Long
TVC:DJI   Dow Jones Industrial Average Index
>> Overview

Zen trading is our new approach for 2021.

It is a trading strategy based on a simple concept: maximum upside, minimum stress.

From 2017 - 2020 we’ve tried just about every form of trading, every strategy, every angle.

We’re now in a position to adopt the approach that works best for me. Make it personalised.

A mature, minimalistic trading strategy based on calm self-knowledge.

>> Goals

By December 2021 I will have:

- Focused for 12 months on becoming an amazing trader - not on ‘getting rich quick’

- Followed a disciplined trading plan for an unbroken 12 months

- Spend 90% of time doing my own research, and my own due diligence, 10% on Twitter

- Documented the plan, execution and outcome phases of every trade, and my win rate

We are in this for the next 10, 20 years - not the next 30 days.

>> Strategy

Aim for a portfolio of 70% stocks, 30% cryptocurrencies.

Buy only instruments that have these 3 ingredients: hype, fundamentals, and a good entry.

If any of these 3 things are missing we don’t take the trade.

We buy set positions in assets, and consider the funds gone as soon as they’re deposited.

We buy and sell in phases, based on the chart. Stick to the plan no matter what.

We have one bag per market for swing trades. This is a quarter position.

This can be used for swing trades - mostly for my own education.

>> Setups

There are 3 setups we buy:

- early
- resting on support - with a stop loss
- bull run with a trailing stop

Every time we define the best, worst and mid case scenarios and calculate R on TradingView.

We use TradingView as a trading journal and keep track of win rate.

>> Timeframes

We cycle trade - buy to hold between 3 to 6 months.

Buy accumulation, sell euphoria or value realisation.

We don’t:

swing trade
daytrade
overtrade
try to ride every wave
force trades

We will miss pumps, miss bull runs, miss waves.

But we’re not trying to get rich quick, be a moonboi, or spend every waking moment trading.

These approaches sometimes work short-term.. but don’t make good money long-term.

We are aiming for maximum upside, minimum stress.

>> Methodology

Six months

Review of overall macro strategy.

Adapt, improve, and shift approach.

Look at win rate, performance of positions.

Each quarter

Allocate funds to invest during that quarter.

Do macro analysis on key instruments - BTC, S&P, DOW and other indicators.

Rebalance portfolio. Cut losers, keep winners etc.

Longer session assessing my trading this quarter. How I’ve done emotionally, how my strategy compares to the market.

Each weekend

One session.

Research promising projects.

Learn from trusted sources and teachers.

Document your research using a predetermined template.

Line up any trades, bids, sells.
