Capt. S S & Seagull were at the boatyard to see how many barnacles had been removed from the hull of the sailing yacht, the S S Lamboat.
For a week, it had been upside down and they weren't sure when they could right her again.
"How come even when the sea moves all the time, the steps down to the beach from this shed are in the same place as they were before last week? " asked Seagull.
" The ocean moves in similar patterns, me little mate" replied old Capt. "And the tides come up and down to much the same places as they have been before. Even though they have to build them when the tide is out from the beach, they know where to build them again.
The highs and lows of the tides are so regularly the same as sometime in the past, that cartographers can make Charts showing Navigational courses for all around the world".
"FaarK fark", said Seagull in awe.
"But you never just rely on the maps alone when your sailing" warned Capt. "Sometimes they can be wrong and you must always be on the look out for hazards and be ready to change course for safety. Just like when we get to go down these steps:
