What are Cash & Equivalents?

Cash & Equivalents represent all cash items, on hand and in bank, that are readily available for use. This includes cash equivalents that can easily be converted into cash. Cash equivalents are cash balances not currently needed and that are temporarily invested in funds. These investments usually have a maturity of up to three months or less. These are considered to be the most liquid assets.

What do Cash & Equivalents include?

  • Cash on hand;
  • Cash in banks;
  • Cash in escrow;
  • Demand deposits;
  • Money market funds; and 
  • Restricted cash, classified as current.
